(Lot Streaming)

Lot streaming is a production scheduling method that divides a production lot into smaller transfer batches so successive operations can process different portions of the same lot concurrently. A 100-unit production run, for example, can move between machines in five groups of 20 while retaining its production-lot identity.

In practice, the transfer quantity determines when downstream processing can begin. With 20-unit transfers, the second operation can start after the first group is released, while the first operation continues processing the remaining units. A completion-time model needs explicit assumptions about setup timing and transport delays. Smaller transfers can shorten elapsed order time without changing the processing time required per unit.

The operational decision includes the cost of additional movements. Moving five groups instead of one increases transfer frequency at each handover. A DMAIC pilot can compare order completion times under the two release rules while measuring handling labour and first-pass yield. Lot identity must remain traceable when groups separate or units await quality disposition.

Value Stream Mapping helps identify handovers where lot streaming may reduce waiting. SMED becomes relevant if the proposed arrangement adds changeovers or requires smaller production runs. After a successful pilot, العمل المعياري (Standard Work) defines the transfer quantity and release conditions, while the خطة التحكم (Control Plan) assigns responsibility for responding when downstream equipment cannot accept the next group.
